Walking around the plaza in downtown Mexico City, we heard someone calling out in Spanish. We turned around to see what was going on and there was a man beckoning us to come to his restaurant. We took a look at the menu and between our sparse Spanish and the man 's halting English, we were able to determine which direction to go and headed up the stairs. The menu is all in Spanish so that was another challenge. We settled on Aztec soup, chef salad with grilled chicken and some sort of meat tacos. The atmosphere was simply Divine, and it was open air so we were able to watch the lights and the people down in the plaza. We were served an appetizer of chips and two kinds of salsa. One was green and tasted like tomatillos and the other one had a smoky, Chipotle flavored. Both were delicious with the Chipotle flavored containing a bit more heat. We each ordered a margarita with tequila, not mezcal, and it was excellent! Not too strong at alcohol taste, just the right blend of limes, Sweet and sour, and tequila. The atmosphere was exotic and traditional. The staff very polite and kind. Were extremely patient with our halting use of Spanish and answer our questions to the best of their ability. Everything was well kept, spotlessly clean, and set a lovely tone for relaxation and enjoyment of our meal. Will definitely go back to Primer Cuando again in the very near future.

Small, welcoming, cafe in a busy central location. Excellent coffee and sandwiches, with great service. The menu is small, but well put together. The prices are reasonable, especially for the location. It's an easy candidate to become a default stop, between visiting nearby museums and other attractions in the area.
